Agisilaos Faros married Potheti Stellios, daughter of Stavros Stellios, in his Milk Bar at Enfield, Sydney, NSW.

The photograph was taken in the late forties when Milk Bars coexisted with Cafes. The latter sold milk shakes made of predictably, milk, flavouring, ice cream and sometimes malt which was whirled to a frothy consistency with a small appliance. (Something like a low powered blender.) The drink was a celebrated institution for young and old. Milk bar proprietors also sold ...

5 Star Supermarket. In 2004, where the ABC operated from.

In another entry about the Monterey Cafe in Gilgandra, I revealed that "...I was born in Gilgandra, in 1952, and left after completing my schooling in 1969.

From about the end of WWII, until mid-1975 - Gilgandra, population, 2,900 - was a very Kytherian town.

5 families - the Pentes, Sklavos, Kelly (Yannokellies), Psaltis (Protopsaltis), and Poulos (Tzortzopoulos) - lived in close proximity to each other - culturally, residentially, and commercially.

Angelo Megaloconomos (Caponas) at Stanthorpe QLD

This is my grandfather Evangeli Megaloconomos sitting outside his cafe in Stanthorpe QLD in about 1917. He returned to Kythera soon after this - where he remained for the rest of his life. I was lucky to meet him in 1979, on my first trip to Kythera. I won't ever forget the kindness of that greeting

The Monterey Cafe in Moree, N.S.W.

Andonis (Tony) Pentopoulos was born in 1912 in the village of Potamos, Kythera. He migrated to Australia in 1928. Before marrying & settling in Port Macquarie, N.S.W, Andonis worked at the Monterey Cafe in Moree, N.S.W, for the Andronicus family. He is pictured here (far left) standing outside the Monterey Cafe with others who I assume are members of the Andronicus family.
