KYTHERA FIRES REPORT

Increase / Reduce Text Size

Between 14. and 17. August fires burned in the east of Kythera. They started on the mountain next to Agia Moni, on the 16th they approached Viarathika and on the 17th they reached the village of Mitata, coming within 50 metres of houses. There seems to have been minimal damage to houses but the losses of olive groves, bee hives and vineyards are immense. The historic mountain of Paliokastro appears to have been burnt out completely. You can view dozens of photos and films via the links here.
