My father (Theodore) was from Logothetianika and my mother (Kirone)Stratigos was born in the US and raised on Mylopotamos. Cousins are Poteres & Stratigos (Strategos). This web site is a great idea. Want to design a family tree. Would appreciate your help. Cousin in the US is interested too (Strategos).

I'm married to a wonderful man of Greek/English heritage. His grandparents were Kytherians. I feel previliged to have the Kytherian family name by marriage. Although I have no Greek/Kytherian heritage at all, I feel like a part of the Kytherian family and wish to visit Kythera and meet my husband's relatives and friends and all Kytherians. Impressive and lovely meeting site on the net.

Thank you for this wonderful web site!
My paternal grandfather was born in Logothetianika about 1880. His name was Theordore Moulos. He arrived in Buffalo, New York USA in 1898 along with his brother George. I visited Kythera in 1991 and plan to visit again soon. Their father's name was Zacharias and their mother's name was Marie. I continue to search for where they were born. The family name became Lewis upon arrival in Buffalo in 1898. I do not know the history of the family name change. I did find relatives still living in Logothetianika - a great aunt named Paneotyio Kombis along with her son Kostas (my apology for spelling errors). My uncle George settled in a suburb of Buffalo, NY called East Aurora, NY. He owned a fantastic candy shop. My grandfather, Theordore, married Clara Lempesis of Gythio (who settled in Buffalo in the late 1890's). They had 4 children (Zacharias - my dad; Constantine; Katina and Angelica). All children are deceased.

I am now starting to add some of the many pictures I have from Kythera and from my family that came here to the United States. My father's family was from Logothetianica. My grandfather was Demetrios Gavriles/Gavrilis/Gavrilys. His nickname was "Boukiouros". My grandmother, whom I have no picture of, was Politimi Christianos also from Logothetianica. I show the many spellings of my last name because my father and his brothers came to the United States at different times and in the process of coming through Ellis Island the American officers who wrote down the last names in English gave them their acces to the country all spelled the names differently for all of them. It is amazing as we are all the same family and have 4 different spellings of our last name.
My mother's family was from Potamos. my grandfather was Theodore Panaretos. He marriied a woman from Aegina, Rose Heldaios, and he imigrated to Smyrna , where he had a distillery and grocery business with his young family only to be exiled from there in 1923 with the rest of the Kytherians and Greeks. They all ended up here in Detroit, Michigan, where I live now. I hope everyone that can contribute to this site do so as we are all one family as you might guess. We only need to know how we are all connected. It is amazing how intermarried and related we all are from our beloved little island of Tsirigo.

Great idea. This along with the website of Voyage to Kythera, allows others to enjoy the history and the people from our wonderful island. Thank you.
