My biological Father came to Australia from Mitata in 1943 from what we can discern. His name was Minas Preneas and I did not meet him until I was 30 and unfortunately only one meeting. Is there anyone out there who might know some information regarding my heritage.

Hi there I am trying to find a family tree that details the linage of my family. My father was George Sklavos, (his brothers, John & Noel) son of Jim and Kettie (Katherine)Sklavos from Brisbane. I believe that my grandfathers uncle was the early George Sklavos and we are related to Father Yianni Sklavos, a priest from the church Agia Triada, Mitata, Kythera however I am not sure how it all pieces together. If anyone has any information on this lineage I would really appreciate it.

with thanks,
Katrina

Cousin Basil, your family history in the opening web page is a wonderful insight to so much, and generates a great many memories. Sadly I fear much of my own family history may be lost, and may rest with cousin Andonis who now lives in his father's family residence in Mitata, and with his mother, my Aunty Katarina. My father, John Anthony (Ianis Andonis) Psaltis (Protopsaltis), born 4/12/1900 was brought to Aus by older brother Spiros in 1920, married Alice Henderson in Wagga Wagga in 1940. As with so many others, my brother and I have been fortunate in the choice of our parents and in the paths they took in providing for us. Thank you for this website, I look forward to learning much from it.

This is the worlds greatest site. I spend hours looking in every corner and sometimes with tears. I’m so happy to see that time, distance or generations doesn’t stop the proud Kytherians looking back to our beloved Island that holds so many memories and natural beauty. I looked in the guest book and saw the names of some very dear friends, and by the way….. O Gianis and Katina on the head of this site are my relatives. Katina is my Mothers Sister married to Panagioti Feros (Elesos) who passed way year ago and she remarried to Gianni. They have 3 more Brothers and Sisters, Anna married to John Kontos (Kondogiani) Sydney, George Sclavos (Mbotsetas) married to Hriso Sydney, and Panagiotis Sklavos (Mbotsetas) married to Maria Avlemonas, what a small world.
My name is Steve Sklavos born in Mitata the first of January 1951. My Father is the now Father Evangelos Sklavos son of Stauros and Katina Sklavos (Pasas), born in Sklavianika Mitata, and my Mother is Eleftheria Sklavos daughter of Philipas and Stamatiki Sklavos (Mbotsetas) also born in Mitata. We left the Island when I was only 6 for Athens and left from there in 1966 for Sydney Australia.
My Father has become a Priest a few years ago in Agia Triada Mitata, and is serving in the Island now. My Sister is visiting there now and I hope soon I will be able to put a flower on the graves of my Grand Parents who loved us so much
To all that contributed to this site, THANK YOU

I am the second granddaughter of Evangelos Sclavos (Mavros). My maternal grandfather George Batsinilas was born and raised in Areopoli Mani (Peloponnisos) & took up a policing post on the island in 1945. Whilst on duty he met my grandmother (Patra Sofios). They courted and subsequently married, raising a family in Logothetianika. My grandfather has remained on the island since then. He is an encyclopaedia of local history, personalities and anectdotes. I am proud of being Greek and of my Kytherian ancestry. Thank you for this website and connecting people with their history & each other.

Maternal 1/2 from Logothetianika. **Above all i'm EXTREMELY proud of being Kytherian. This website once again showcases the beauty of our island, with it's people & places. My grandfather, Evangelos Sclavos (Mavros) migrated to Aust.in 1938. WWII kept his wife Annitsa and son Nicholas (my father) separated until their arrival in Sydney in 1947. It wasn't until 1973 that my late father embarked on a trip to Kythera to marry my mother, Chrisanthy Sclavos (nee; Batsinilas,gen.:Sofios).I am proud of my ancestry and my ancestral lands.

Sinxharitiria kai kalo riziko! Words fail to capture the enthusiasm I felt as I peroused the site. I particularly enjoyed reading the pages – oral history – on the Kytherians of the far north coast of NSW. It brought back fond memories of my early years, growing up in Casino. Indeed, a time to reflect on the past. I wish you every success in 'bringing to life' the history of the Kytherians of the diaspora!
