Another common saying was "vassi alati" - "is he/she adding salt?"

Used in the context of "is he/she telling lies?" - or "is he/she embellishing that recollection/story/incident so much that it is now so exaggerated - it is untrue?"

If the story etc was true - the response might be

"Ohi - le-i ta alithia" - No he/she is not adding salt - he/she, is telling the truth."

To lie, embellish, exaggerate -
