The STAIS FAMILY IN HORA was one of the best known families and SPYROS STAIS was a member of Parliament and later Education Minister of Greece. A number of schools were established in Kythera during his Ministerial years. He was also known for the "duel" he had with the member of Parliament Hatzipetro. Hatzipetros was killed during the duel and from then on duels were banned in Greece. His wife "Maria" provided financial assistance to the University of Athens,to assist students of Kytherian background.
