Dimitri Aroney (Theodoropoulos), son of Kosmas and Frosini (nee Papadopoulos), was born in the village of Aroniathika on the island of Kythera, Greece in 1890 and died in N.S.W, Australia in 1991, aged 100 years. Dimitri migrated to Australia in 1906 at the age of 16, and from 1908 ran a restaurant with his brothers Peter (Panayiotis) and Jack (Ioannis) in Murwillumbah, N.S.W. Dimitri went back to Greece in 1915 to serve in the Greek army during the Asia Minor War and returned to Australia in 1923 with his new wife Stamatia (also from Aroniathika, Kythera). They initially settled in Bundarra, N.S.W, where they ran a café and picture show.
