Dr Archivides Kalokerinos passed away peacefully on March 1. Dr Kalokerinos, a proud Hellene, was awarded Greek Australian of the Century by Neos Kosmos in 2000 for his tireless work in the medical community.
Known fondly as "Dr Archie", he worked closely with the Aboriginal Medical Service to reduce the high mortality rate of Aboriginal children in North western New South Wales, and, while under his supervision, the rate dropped to zero.
Then Prime Minister of Australia John Howard, congratulated Dr Kalokerinos for this work at the opening of the Kytheraismos Conference II in 2006, stating through his "consistent and selfless efforts saved the lives of many young indigenous Australians".
