Haniotis in Sevastopol (Crimea, Russia)
In about the year 1880 a brother of my great-great-grandmother named Minas Aglacitis migrated from Friligianika to the city of Sevastopol in the Crimea, Russia. His nephew, Panayioti Haniotis, was sent to make his fortune with his uncle. I think this picture depicts Panayoti, his wife Despina, and uncle Minas.
Postscript by Sophia Zantiotis, cousin of the submitter:
My grandmother, Sophia, remembers them coming to visit her grandmother Sophia (Panayiotis' mother). She remembers being told they had a good business and were very wealthy. Our great-great-grandmother, Sophia, returned from visiting them in Russia filled with stories of how wonderful their house and kitichen were and that they had running water.
After the Russian Revolution of 1917 & Panayiotis death they lost everything. My grandmother Sophia tells me Despina came to Kythera and lived off her jewels.
