My mother Maria Kalokairinou with her sister Titika
By request of "Kythera Cultural Association", this is the story of the three cousins, whose father was murdered. In this photograph the two Sisters, my mother, Maria Kalokairinou and her sister Titika Zervoulakou. My mother was killed in a horiffic accident in Kythera while walking my blind father towards Kapsali.Titika was married to Leonidas and had three daughters. They lived in Athens and during the war, they were hiding British spies in their house. After the war, My uncle Leonidas, was tortured and then murdered by Greek political parties. His wife, received from the King and later by the Queen of England letters of appreciation for the assistance provided by keeping British spies.
My late father Valerios was in Athens, when he received a message to go to Haidari in Peiraias to look for the body of his brother in law Leonidas.
When he got there, there were a number of dead bodies and he could only recognise my uncle Leonidas by the clothes he was wearing. On the palm of his hand, he had a photograph of his family. His fingers were severed.
