Athenaeum Building, Wilcannia, NSW.
Numerous Greek/Kytherian picture theatres were named Athenaeum as we have discovered by reading Kevin Cork's Ph.d thesis on this subject. [You will need to check under three separate spellings of the word - Athenium, Atheneum, and Athenaeum].
The Wilcannia Athenaeum was built in 1883. It is one of the best preserved buildings in Wilcannia, and is currently used as a Museum and a community services centre.
Wilcannia is one of the few towns in the West of NSW which has regressed, rather than progressed.
A search on the kythera-family web-site under Wilcannia, indicates that to April 2005, no previous entries involving the town have been submitted there.
My enquiries in 2005, indicated that Wilcannia does not have a recent Greek/Kytherian past.
Is anyone aware whether or not Wilcannia has a Greek/Kytherian history?
