John Wood portrait takes Packing Room Prize

Veteran actor John Wood is the subject of this year's Packing Room Prize winning portrait.

The prize was announced at the Art Gallery of NSW this morning by head gallery packer Steve Peters.

The portrait, titled A Strength of Character, is by Melbourne artist Raelene Sharp.

"It's wonderful that a relatively unknown painter painting a portrait of a has-been has managed to win such a prestigious prize," Mr Wood said.

The Wood portrait is also a finalist for the actual Archibald Prize worth $75,000 to be announced next week.
