The prize was announced at the Art Gallery of NSW this morning by head gallery packer Steve Peters. The portrait, titled A Strength of Character, is by Melbourne artist Raelene Sharp. "It's wonderful that a relatively unknown painter painting a portrait of a has-been has managed to win such a prestigious prize," Mr Wood said. The Wood portrait is also a finalist for the actual Archibald Prize worth $75,000 to be announced next week.
