The Western Stores dominated retail sales in Gilgandra, from the first half of the 20th century - until it was divested by Coles-Myer in the 1980's.

In fact the group dominated retail sales throughout the Central Western region of New South Wales.

The Western Stores was a competitor to numerous Kytherian businesses throughout the 20th century.
