A flag display also featured in the 75th Anniversary celebrations

held in the Roxy "complex" Bingara, on the weekend of the 9th and 10th April, 2011.

In fact two flag displays were utilised.

This marked the first time that "heraldic accoutrements" of this kind have been used at the Roxy.

On the 10th April, a flag display also featured prominently in the Roxy Cafe, for the Lions Club breakfast.

The icon stand and icon of Saint George was not part of the raffle

It was on "display" to accentuate a religious connection with the 75th Anniversary "panayiri" - celebration with (some) religious connotation.

Australian visitors were very intrigued by the icon on display.

A raffle was conducted in order to defray various expenses

associated with the staging of the 75th Anniversary celebrations, held at the Roxy "complex" Bingara, on the 9th and 10th April, 2011.

The raffle was an initiative of the Kytherian World Heritage Fund, which has been a key "driver" for eliciting support for the Roxy "complex" from Kytherian and Hellenic groups in Australia and in Greece and Europe.

Rick Hutton, former owner of the IGA supermarket in Bingara

with Sandy McNaughton, Manager of the Roxy. Both were instrumental in the sucess of the 75th Anniversary celebrations for the Roxy "complex".

The Roxy "complex" was first officially opened in 1936.

Rick Hutton, former owner of the IGA supermarket in Bingara

officiated at a great number of events, discharging his duties with his usual aplomb.

His dress code can best be described as "always splendiferously dapper" - assuming that the word "spendiferous" exists? Note the bow tie?

He was master of ceremonies or "moderator" for talks given by John Wood and Peter McCarthy (Makarthis).

Peter McCarthy (Makarthis) and Peter Giannis

both former Inverell cafe proprietors, help out during the frentic rush on milkshakes and spiders.

This occurred after the Peter and Co cafe, the Roxy Cafe, was officially opened on the evening of the 9th April, 2011.

Peter Makarthis (on the left) owned Oslo's on Otho, Inverell.

Peter Gianneas (on the right) owned the Black and Green Bar, and then Pete's Place, Inverell.

Peter has had long experience "behind the counter" having recently sold his sandwich and coffee bar - Oslo's on Otho in Inverell.

He is a valued member of the Roxy Museum Committee.

Peter McCarthy (Makarthis) looking distinguished

His presentation on the Peters and Co logo that "wrapped up" proceedings for the 75th Anniversary weekend was superb.

As is his input on the Roxy Museum Committee.

Living in nearby Delungara, makes his contribution even more inavaluable.

The final major event of the weekend was a presentation by Peter McCarthy (Makarthis)

about the name used on so many of the Greek Cafes throughout the 20th century - Peters and Co. Peter talk was very enlightening, and was entitled the Peters Enigma.

Bill Kouvousis at the 75th Anniversary Ball, Roxy

Bingara, northwestern New South Wales

In 1958, Bill Kouvousis documented the community of Bingara banding together to rebuild the home of a family lost by fire on the eve of Christmas. The remarkable film he produced, The Christmas Spirit, offers an extraordinary insight into life in a rural town and uniquely captures the spirit of Australians “old and new.”

This film was screened on the weekend of the 9th and 10th April 2011.

This was one of a ...
