Ayios Haralambos Karavas

Looking up from the valley to what most Karavites regard as the key "icon of the built environment" in Karavas, the magnificent Church of Ayios Haralambos.
This picture was taken in the 1970's, when most of the "sculess" - terraces of Karavas were still intact,

A great deal of time and effort was taken by Karavites to build these "sculless". Without them, the soil would have eroded away - and nothing would have grown there - including the olive trees.
