Emanuel POTIRI, born in Sydney in 1918, was introduced to the cafe business by his father George, who originally came from Mylopotamos in 1902. Emanuel, better known as 'Mick' to his family and friends, worked in his father's cafe in Macksville from the age of 15. He served in New Guinea during WWII before marrying Winifred FORRESTER, a local girl from Newee Creek between Macksville and Nambucca Heads NSW in 1948. They continued to work in Potiri's Cafe until 1958 when the family moved to Canberra. Mick was in partnership in Mam's Cake Shop in Civic before opening Potiri’s Sandwich Bar prior to his retirement. Mick was a well respected business person who had a great love for Australia. Mick passed away in 1994, exactly a month before his wife Winnie passed away. He was survived by his only daughter, son-in-law and 2 grandchildren.
