Ireni (pictured here) and her sister Maria were wonderful women. They were tender with their animals, who loved them back; they could cook an artichoke stew over a wood fire which would have put the best chefs in Europe to shame; they were so generous despite having so little themselves; and they were ever joyful, despite living quite tragic lives.
Here she is, walking majestically back along the cemetry road towards Mitata.
