Kytherian Society of California, annual luncheon, Oct. 23, 2005

Seated: Tesse Sofios Stamates, Stamatoula Mavromatis Chlentzos
Back row: Tedde Chlentzos Zes (daughter of Stamatoula), Katherine (Chlentzos-Alfieris) Stathis, Ted (Chlentzos-Alfieris) Zamenes, Vikki (Chlentzos-Alfieris) Vrettos Fraioli, Janet Chlentzos, Terry Chlentzos Keramaris.
Thanks to this website, Terry Keramaris found her cousins in Northern California. We reunited at this luncheon at the Greek Orthodox Cathedral of the Ascension in Oakland, California, on Oct. 23, 2005.
Vikki, Ted, and Katherine's grandmother was Maria Chlentzos (1882-1968, from Christoforianikia), who married John Alfieris (1883-1966 from Potamos) one of the original founders of the Kytherian Society of California in 1950, along with his son Harry Alfieris, Katherine's father)
Terry Keramaris and Janet Chlentzos (cousins) were the granddaughters of Maria Chlentzos brother Diamantis Chlentzos. Diamantis' family moved to Southern California and after many years the two families lost contact with each other. (One of Diamantis' sons is the infamous Pete Chlentzos, who is the oldeset living Greek Olympian. He competed in the Pole Vault, in the 1932 Olympics)
Tedde Chlentzos Zes is the granddaugher of yet another Chletzos sibling, Panayiotis. Panayiotis had a son Angelo who married Stamatoula who turned 99 shortly after this photo was taken.
Tesse is also related to us through the Sofios link, but I haven't yet completed the connection in the family tree.

On this site there are photo videos and an audio interview, along with many old photographs of the Chlentzos, and Alfieris families. My cousin Terry Chlentzos Kermaris and I spent one afternoon at the home of Tikey and Tedde Zes, in San Jose, CA, where we video-taped Tedde's mother, Stamatoula Mavromatis Chlentzos, as she told us about the people in many of her old photographs from Kythera.

The videos are large files and may take some to load the first time. You will need Quicktime in order to view the movie files.

It is a free download.
