I too am searching for distant members of the Fatseas family. My name is Stephen (Steve) Fatseas. I was born in New York City in 1945. My grandfather's name was Eugene (may be Americanized) Fatseas and my grandmother was Maria Fatseas (don't know her maiden name).
My father James (Dimitrios) emigrated to the US in the early 1900's. The Ellis Island archives lists him arriving on July 9, 1914 at the age of 8 along with his older brother Nicolaos, age 10. Both have their birthplace listed as Smyrna, Turkey. I can't find info on my grandfathers entry on the same ship, but it was common for heads of households to come over early and send for their families later.

The 1930 US Census lists my grandparents and the family as living in Wayne County, Michigan (probably Detroit).
In the 1930 Census:
Maria, age 50
Eugene, age 50
Nick (Nicolaos), age 27
Jimmey (James/Dimitrios), age 24
Hellen, age 14 (born in US)
Daisie (Anastasia), age 13 (born in US)

Both my Ya-Ya and Papou were born circa 1880, but I don't have the information as to where. I also don't know when they arrived in Smyrna, but I do know they lived there for a few years before coming to America. My Papou died circa 1930 and my Ya-Ya died in 1964. My father died in 1966.

My mother and father had 4 sons, Eugene of Topeka, KS, USA, James of Corona, CA, USA, Frank of Olympia, WA, USA, and myself.

I'm trying to find related Fatseas's.

My papou's name is John Stefan Fatseas, born 1912 in New York. Not sure what city. He married Tina Fatseas. He attended NYU and then worked for the CIA. He had a brother named George Stefan Fatseas, and their father (my great grandfather)'s name was John Stefan Fatseas...see the pattern. John Stefan Fatseas and Tina Fatseas gave birth to my father (Paul Fatseas) and my uncle (Stefan John Fatseas). If any of these people ring a bell, lease contact me, any info would be nice.

Hi Nick, I believe your pappou is the same John Fatseas who competed in the 1935 Balkan Games in Greece with my uncle Pete Clentzos. My uncle was born in 1915 and was an Olympian in 1932, competing for Greece as a pole vaulter. In 1935 a team of five Greek-American athletes was sponsored by a New York businessman to go to Greece and participate in the Balkan Games. My uncle frequently mentioned that one of his teammates was another Kytherian, John Fatseas of New York.

I have a transcript of a video interview made in 1984 which states: "Then there was John Fatseas, of New York University, who placed fifth in the hurdles in the NCAA meet, a very fine hurdler and good athlete. He was well built and took care of himself."

I am certain this would be your pappou! I also have some photos of the Balkan team from Uncle Pete's archives, and I know your pappou is in the photos.

There wwere some Fatseas family in the Detroit Michigan area, I remember in the 60's. My Father baptized one of the boys here in Detroit. I think his name was Gus. I also think he still lives in Michigan. I have acontact somewhere in my papers and I can look. E-mail me at [email protected] and we can communicate about this. Sometime in the 30's, there was a Fatseas family in the Detroit area that had a candy business also.
