Skoulianika

A small settlement to the east of Livadi, adjacent to the Church of Saint Irene. The settlement developed initially as the homestead of a branch of the Kasimatis family who arrived in the late 17th century or a little earlier. In the Ottoman census of 1715, they are already mentioned. The family, identified by the nickname Skoulos, included the given name Pavlos—a traditional Christian name among the Kasimatis. The nickname Skoulos appears in Venetian censuses as early as 1721. Later in the 18th century, the family grew and a separate parish was established at Saint Irene, named Skoulianika after the nickname. During the same century, a branch of the Calligeros family from Strapodi appeared, bearing the nicknames Giggis and Kourmoulis. In modern times, development has tended to merge the settlements of Katouni and Skoulianika once again.
