A small settlement in the Kampos area, just before Potamos. Nearby stands a 13th-century church dedicated to Saint Nikon, but the village itself does not appear to be of such antiquity. The name derives from the surname Zaglanikis, widespread on Kythera from the 16th century. The settlement was likely established in the late 17th or early 18th century, initially by a single family. Beyond the known meanings of Zaglanikis (crooked, twisted), it is also thought to relate to "zaglanika," meaning a flat, fertile plain. The parish church is not Saint Nikon but the nearby Monastery of Saint Theodore. The plain is referenced in 14th-century sources and the Venier land distributions. Today, Zaglanikianika is no longer permanently inhabited.

My grandmother was Chrysanthy Kavezos from Zaglanikianika. She had some brothers that emigrated to Australia. I have met one of her nephews ,I believe Jim or John and his nephew (my cousin) Jim when he took a trip to the states.
I also met the elder Jim's daughter who was living in Florida at the time.

My grand father (John Kavazos) and his two brothers (Nickolas and Angelo) immigrated to Australia in 1908 leaving their village of Zaglanikianika. I returned in 2001 with my father and planning to return again in July 2013. If anyone has any information regarding this family history I would love to make contact with you. Regards Margaret
