FIRES ON KYTHERA AUGUST 2010

Dear Friends of Kythera,

Over the last few days fires have been burning in the east of Kythera. They started up on the mountain next to Agia Moni, and yesterday they reached the village of Mitata, coming very close to the houses. So far there seems to have been minimal damage to houses but the losses of olive groves, bee hives and vineyards are huge. The historic mountain of Paliokastro appears to have been burnt out completely. You can view dozens of photos by going to the first link below, and the movies of the fire are linked below them.
