Looking for members of the Stelliou family of Potamos

submitted by Nikos Stelliou on 01.06.2004

I am trying to locate members of the Stelliou Family from Potamos, in order to exchange information about the history of our ancestors.
My great grandfather Panagiotis Stelliou left Potamos in the 19th century and established a commercial business in Varna, now in Bulgaria, Black See. His son, (my grand father) Nikolaos Stelliou-Tsirigotis married a Bulgarian woman (Anna Petkova) in Varna, and came as refugee in Greece from Bulgaria in 1911 to Almiros, Thessalia, where he died soon after. His wife Anna and four children (Marika, Evanthia, Sultana and Panagiotis) moved to Thessaloniki in the 20s and settled in the suburb of Nea Varna. My faher Panagiotis (1913-1982) graduated there from Law school in the 30s, was employed in the Ministry of Public Welfare and was transferred to Athens in 1959.

I would appreciate if I hear from people that share the same family name - rather rare in Greece- and would like to exchange information about possible common ancestors.

To Nikos,
My name is Mary Conomos.
My maternal great grandfather was Vrettos Stelliou, born Potamos , Kythera. I don't know if he had siblings.
My maternal grandfather was Stavros Stelliou born Potamos Kythera.
Stavros had 3 brothers, Panagiotis, Theodoros, Haralambos, and 1 sister, Kaliope.
Stavros had 3 daughters that would have been your father's generation . They were Potheti (born 1915), Aikaterina (my mother , born 1917) and Erini born 1922), all in Potamos. The daughters migrated to New South Wales, Australia 1938, 1939 and 1947 respectively.
I wonder if we can connect the threads?
