We have found some archieve documentation where Grandfather wished to sponsor my father Jack and daughter Gregoria to come to Australia, and he stated his occupation as a Restaurant Keeper at 247 Oxford Street, Darlinghurst, Sydney in the year 1924.
We presume it would have been a Kytherian Cafe / Restaurant, and would be interested to know if anyone has memories / history of year 1924 on Oxford Street, at this address.


My Grandfather Peter Vamvakaris born Kythera 1874 - passed away in Brisbane 1927. Grandfather arrived in Sydney, Australia, June 1904, leaving his family in Kythera. It was the way it was done to seek new beginings. He was married to Annazena,(dec) and children Jack(dec) & Gregoria(dec).

Only my father Jack made it to Australia (1922), as my Grandmother passed away in Kythera before given opportunity to come to Australia. Gregoria, stayed with relatives and later married.
