Alice Irene Mazarick Silverthorn

Alice Irene Mazarick Silverthorn was born April 3, 1929, in North Vandergrift, Pa. She was the daughter of May and Michael E. Mazarick (see entries). She was admittedly, the most animated and outgoing of their three children. Even as a child, she showed that she was musically talented and had an unforgettable alto voice.
She married Robert Silverthorn in 1947 at age eighteen so that she could “stay out past 10:00,” she often joked. Though once married, she claimed she rarely did! She and Bob were married and devoted for fifty-five years, until her death in 2003. She leaves behind a son, Charlie, a daughter, Ellen, and four grandchildren.
Alice earned her Bachelor of Music from Youngstown State University in 1964 and her Master of Arts in Performance in 1970 from Kent State University (Ohio). Alice loved to sing opera and once trained and sang with Beverly Sills. She taught music for 21 years in the Howland School System and produced a variety of musical productions during her career. She taught private piano and voice lessons for 40 years and was the choir director for East Side Church and Pleasant Valley Church.
Alice lived a dynamic life and witnessed God's love through her life and her music.
