In 1924, a year before his marriage to Theodora Lianos, Bretos had acquired two cinemas in the outer Sydney suburb of Fairfield. These were called the The Crescent and The Butterfly. While Bretos looked after his restaurant in George Street, Sydney, Theodora used to travel to Fairfield to supervise the running of the cinemas. This lasted until 1928 when Margetis left cinema exhibition.
The projectionist at the cinema took a movie of the wedding of Bretos' sister Evenagelia and her husband Sam Coroneo and developed it and showed it at the reception that night. This was an unusual achievement for those times.
When Kevin Cork was doing his Ph.D thesis on Greek cinema ownership in Australia, I was interviewed by him. I showed him the cinema photographs and gave him information about Dad's involvement in the cinema industry.
