The Great Walls of Kythera Book Project: Kythera has some extraordinary walls, and good pictures of them would make a fascinating book. If you have some wonderful Kytherian wall pictures then submit them to this category. In 2011 we'll select the best of them to go into a book. Anyone whose picture appears in the book will get 3 free copies and of course be named as the author.

The remains of a very old house on the slope of a hill shows how strong the walls of Kythera can be to still be standing after so many years. The house would have had great views of the sea and Peloponnisos.

View from the Venetian fortress looking out toward the road. Such an interesting place!
The Lion of St Marcus - a Venetian symbol of democracy - can be seen above the doorway. This is an amazing place made even more interesting to know that it was built in 1565!
Nice architecture.
There are plenty of walls to see here!

New and old walls can be found in very close proximity in the village of Viaradika.
The ancestors of the Gianniotis family had flat rocks protruding from their walls as steps for the convenience of tending to their terraced properties in Kato Livathi. The steps begin from the lower right hand corner of the wall.
This Kamara was originally lived in by members of the Condoleon family until a larger and more modern house was later built. It was then used as a stable for livestock.

Interesting walls!
Whilst exploring the area where the water mills are, we came across this old house. It was quite an effort to actually reach it, but well worth the walk!
