John Stathatos: Enthronement of the new Bishop of Kythera, Chora, 30.7.2005. Digital photograph. On July 30th, the new Bishop of Kythera, Serafim Stergioulis, was enthroned in the Church of the Saviour in Chora in the presence of the Archbishop of Athens, numerous priests, local dignitaries and many of the new bishop’s flock from the islands of Hydra and Spetses, where he had previously served as preacher with the rank of Archimandrite. The participation of the majority of secular Kytherians was noticeably muted, possibly because of lingering resentment at the cavalier way in which the previous and relatively popular incumbent, Bishop Kyrillos, was translated at short notice to the see of Karditsa.
