Mazarakianika

A very small yet highly significant settlement for historical research, located north of Livadi near the church of Saint Constantine. The settlement took shape when a branch of the Kasimatis family bearing the nickname Mazarakis came to reside in the area. This nickname appears in the latter half of the 16th century. Toward the end of the 18th century, a certain Iakoumis Fatseas from Fatsadika became priest at the church and acquired the nickname Mazarakis. A few years later, the Kasimatis-Mazarakis family disappeared entirely, leaving inhabitants with the surname Fatseas whose descendants live there today. This process is characteristic of the naming of settlements and the common extinction of certain family lines. On a hill known as Milapidea (referenced from the 15th century), a school was erected during the British Protectorate (1825).
