A small settlement southeast of Potamos, said to have been built after the destruction of Paleochora in 1537. The name was given at the end of the 17th or early 18th century and comes from the surname Meletios (or possibly Melitas). In the Ottoman census of 1715, it is referred to as Melityanika, as in the Venetian censuses, and is inhabited mainly by residents with the surnames Meletios and Melitas, both certainly Byzantine. The church of Panagia must have existed by the end of the 17th century, making the settlement older than the earliest census references. Melitianika and neighboring Trifyllianika likely followed the same course in Kytherian history.

Recently found some old photos from my dads trip to Kythera in 1960s/70s and wondering if anyone recognizes people in the pictures? In the top middle photo with priest my grand-uncle Pete is on the far right. The top right photo is of my grandmother Despina and my dad Nicholas (sunglasses) - man with hat is possibly named Tassos? Bottom right photo looks like my great-grandfather Theodore Panaretos (holding fishing pole).
