Lafcadio Hearn - “Hearn and Family”, the latest exhibition

In this year, the 110th anniversary of Hearn’s death, an international symposium and commemorative event will be held in July in Lefkada, Greece, the place of his birth. This event will attempt an interpretation of Hearn’s “Open Mind” and explore ways to connect Hearn’s legacy with the future. “Koizumi Yakumo Memorial Garden” in Tramore receives fund from Japan

On 6 March 2014, the Japan World Exposition 1970 Commemorative Fund (JEC Fund) pledged to provide financial assistance up to 6,000,000 Yen to Waterford County Council (WCC) for the “Koizumi Yakumo Memorial Garden” project. The grant is the largest of 48 international grants awarded by the JEC Fund this year.

Plaque mounted on the front of Lafcadio Hearn’s former home at 1565-67 Cleveland Ave.

In 2004 the New Orleans City Council voted 7-0 to designate the home a local landmark. Hearn was a Greek-born author who moved to New Orleans in 1877. His writings about the city’s culture and traditions helped make New Orleans a place of interest worldwide.
