Yianni Venardos (Katsavias) - August 1984

Yianni initially married Anastasia Zantiotis - the sister of my paternal grandfather Peter. They had five children, Bill, Steve, Andrew, Eugenia and Grigoroula.
When Anastasia passed away due to childbirth complications, it was suggested to Dimitra, Anastasia's sister, that she marry Yianni to raise the children.
So in around 1936, Yianni married Dimitra Zantiotis. They didn't have any children.

Haralambos (Bubby) Venardos - August 1984

Bubby was the middle son of Panayioti Venardos (nickname - Karides) and Kyrani Zantiotis - the sister of my paternal grandfather Peter.
Bubby was a stoker on the ships and loved hunting. He never married.
When he eventually had the old family home connected to the power grid, his mother didn't like it, complaining that the television had taken the place of the display of all her family photos which gave her happiness.
Thank you to Maria Stephenson (Zantiotis) for this information.

'Barba Ilia' - Perlegianika 11/8/1986

'Barba Ilia' was born in Pyrgos Ilia in the Peloponnese. Together with my mother's father Peter and his brother George, they were forced to leave their town as they apparently refused to join the Communist Party. They went to Kythera in the late 1920s aged around 18 years old and settled in Perlegianika where they lived next door to each other.
I clearly remember asking Barba Ilia to take a photo of him and he was very excited. After I took his photo, he asked me if it would be okay to take another photo of him with his apron. When I said yes, he quickly went into his house and emerged wearing his apron. He was so proud to show me that apron!
