Great-grandmother Sophia Kontoleon with her four children and other Greek friends in St. Louis, Missouri

My grandmother Marian in the middle with her older sister Gloria on the first step to her left and then to her right is her younger brother Kosta and the girl further over is the other sister Ourania. Kosta and Ourania are still alive today as of April 7, 2016. My great-grandmother is Sophia Kontoleon was married to my great-grandfather, not pictured, John Kontoleon and they were both from Viarathika.

Viaradika Kafenio and House

The Kafenio (middle) and House (right) built by Peter Minas Condoleon in approx 1930. The Kafenio closed in the early 1970's. The house was restored and brought back to life by his son, Arthur Peter Condoleon (Brisbane) in the early 2000's who has since been a regular summer visitor to Viaradika.

another little church I found near the village of viarathika, this could have been like a lot of small churches on the island that could have been privately owned by families of kythera many years ago ...this church must have celebrated recently with the dressing on the door...

coronis

I have recently visited kythera with my wife visited my uncle steve(stavrou) coronis and also cousins Strato from arionathika and cousin peter from Diakofti.

My fathers name is Victor (Vreto) Coronis he had a brother Jim coronis and sisters Maria Flaskas and Poppy not sure of her last name.

My grandfather and grandmother have both passed away a long time agon there names were Peter/Helen coronis the same names my sister and i have in australia.

I would like to trace a family tree with all possible relatives and cousins.

I love kythera hoping to return with father soon..

Stephen Tsaousis - Australia

My grandfather Stavros Tsaousis was born on Kythera in appr. 1895. He came to Australia approx 1910. Married Stavroula (known as Stella) they had 2 boys, George and Panagiotis (known as Peter Bob). They changed their surname to TSOUSIS. Bob married Rosemarie (anglo-Aust). They have 4 children. Wendy, Stephen, Antony and Andrew. They all grew up in Newcastle.

Contoleon

Wanting to work on a family tree for the Contoleons. I am a grand daughter of John (Yianni) and Diamanta Contoleon. I know my popou was the 3rd eldest of 11. His parents where Angelo (Evangelos)& Maria Contoleon. They were all from Viarathika.

Viarathika Caves

This is a view from Mitata over to Viarathika and the cave-church next to the ravine entrance in the middle of the picture. There is a legend about the caves, which might be a myth as I have heard the story told about other caves in other parts of the world. The story goes that when the turks (or pirates) were maurading on the island looking for slaves etc. many villagers hid in these caves. One of the women had a baby and, when the mauraders were getting close and the baby wouldn't stop crying, she smothered the baby at her breast, killing it, and the group went undiscovered.
