Athenaeum Building, Wilcannia, NSW.

Numerous Greek/Kytherian picture theatres were named Athenaeum as we have discovered by reading Kevin Cork's Ph.d thesis on this subject. [You will need to check under three separate spellings of the word - Athenium, Atheneum, and Athenaeum].

The Wilcannia Athenaeum was built in 1883. It is one of the best preserved buildings in Wilcannia, and is currently used as a Museum and a community services centre.

Wilcannia is one of the few towns in the West of ...

Royal Hotel Warren, 2005. Site includes the location of the former Warren Fruit shop.

The Royal Hotel Warren has been enlarged. Originally, two shops, (which can be seen in a previous flood photograph entry) were extant there, adjoining the Kapsanis cafe.

The second shop was a fruit shop owned and operated firstly, by my paternal uncle Peter Hlihlis (Tzortzo)Poulos, and later by my maternal uncle Manuel (Manoli) Belos Coroneos.

This is how the extended Royal Hotel, Warren, looks in the year 2005.

Photograph hanging on the wall of the cafe formerly owned and operated by Archie Kapsanis, Warren, NSW.

The photograph depicts one of many floods that occurred in Warren during the 20th century.

You can see how high the flood waters came.

Archie's was not the only Kytherian shop effected. Two shops to the left of Archie's, my father's brother, Panayoti (Peter) Hlihlis (Tzortzo)Poulos ran a fruit shop.

Until his early demise, Peter was the most charismatic and civic minded member of the Warren community.

Later my maternal uncle, Manuel ...

Cafe of Archie Kapsanis, Warren, NSW, 2005.

Archie owned and operated this cafe in Warren, in central western New South Wales for many decades.

Archie died in 2004.

Note that the ubiquitous Peters and Co sign - which was on numerous Kytherian cafes throughout NSW - is still extant on the front of the building. The date the building was completed is also extant - 1935.

If the walls in the building could talk, they would have three quarters of a century of Kytherian stories to tell.
